Why a Treasure Hunt?

Find the Eye is an effort to give back to the community that has long supported us. It is meant to encourage outdoor activity, which is shown to reduce the risk of nearsightedness in children and metabolic disease in adults.

Find the Eye was inspired by Find the Spine, a similar event in Kanab, Utah. This is put together by Grow Chiropractic to encourage healthy, outdoor active living. Learn more about them at findthespine.com

All proceeds beyond the costs of this event will be donated to fund a scholarship for someone in the current graduating class – the minimum scholarship will be $500, but if enough people participate in the event that all costs are covered, any excess funds generated by the event will grow that scholarship.

All materials, including the official Find the Eye t-shirts, were made by local Tillamook small businesses.

What You Need to Know

Find the Eye is a Treasure Hunt event organized by Tillamook Vision Center in an effort to give back to our community.

The treasure is cold hard cash.  Since we wouldn’t want to put an envelope of bills out in nature, we have hidden a large glass eye trophy/sculpture somewhere in Tillamook County. The first person to find touch the Eye, wins.

The grand prize is  $5,000 for a registered participant, or $1,500 for a non-registered participant.

See the Official Rules page for exact details. Basically to win you must submit photo proof of you, on site, holding the Eye.  For the $5000 grand prize you must be wearing an official event T-shirt when you find and touch the Eye, and you must be registered with the event.

Registration is $30 for adults and $15 for children 15 and under.  You can register on this website and pay online at the time of registration, or pay in person via cash or check at Tillamook Vision Center. If you chose the second option, keep in mind that the registration is not valid unless it is recorded in our system that you have paid your fee

You can pick up your official T-shirt at Tillamook Vision Center, once they arrive:

Tillamook Vision Center

Tillamook, OR

Monday- Thursday* 8am-5:30pm.

The Eye will be found by September 25th even if it means the last clue is the exact geographical coordinates of the Eye.

Boundaries are:

North End: Below Arch Cape

South End: North of Otis

West End: Pacific Ocean

East End:  The East side of the Coast Range

The Eye will NOT be hidden within 50 feet of any commercial or private property.  Please stay off private property. Please respect public land as you enjoy the beautiful place we call home.  See the Official Rules and the Outdoor Ethics sections for more details.

Please Like and Follow Tillamook Vision Center’s and Find-the-Eye’s Facebook pages to get updates on the clues.  Clues to search for the Eye will post multiple times per week once the hunt begins!

In addition to this, Tillamook Vision Center staff will be given BONUS clues – these will either be ADVANCE clues (more targeted clues scheduled for release later in the event) or they will be EXTRA clues that won’t be posted publicly. If you run into a staff member while you’re out hunting, and if you are both wearing official shirts (they’ll be wearing special shirts similar to yours, but in a different color), you can get an extra clue by taking a picture with them and posting it publicly.
